In the ever-evolving realm of music, Pierre de Maere stands out as a remarkable talent emerging from the heart of Belgium. Born on May 24, 2001, in Uccle, Brussels-Capital, this young artist has been making waves that reverberate far beyond his homeland. Pierre’s breakthrough came with the release of his single “Un jour, je marierai un ange,” a track that quickly ascended to the top 5 of the Ultratop 50 Singles chart in the French-speaking region. Not stopping there, it also secured a coveted spot in the top 10 of the national French charts in 2022. By 2023, the song had earned the prestigious diamond certification from SNEP, a testament to his rapid ascent in the music industry. Notably, Pierre’s talent was recognized early on. In 2022, he clinched the Belgian Revelation of the Year award at the NRJ Music Awards, a well-deserved accolade that set the stage for greater recognition. The following year, he received a Victoire de la Musique, a pinnacle achievement in the French music scene, as Male Revelation of the Year. Beyond his musical persona, Pierre’s journey from his birthplace in Uccle to the serene landscapes of Brabant Wallon played a pivotal role in shaping his artistry. Collaborating closely with his brother, Xavier de Maere, a seasoned sound engineer, he weaves his creative influences into his distinctive sound.

Pierre’s musical odyssey commenced at a tender age, composing melodies on an iPod Touch using GarageBand. Remarkably, he is entirely self-taught, having never taken formal singing or music theory lessons. His musical palette draws inspiration from legends like Supertramp, Elton John, and Pink Floyd, a musical heritage passed down by his father. During his teenage years, Pierre delved into the world of photography, momentarily distancing himself from music to explore the visual arts. At eighteen, he ventured into a photography course at the Royal Academy of Fine Arts in Antwerp, though his passion for music eventually drew him back. March 2020 marked the release of his first French-language track, “Potins Absurdes.” Spotted by Cinq7, a label under Wagram Music, he embarked on a promising journey, signing up for an EP and an album. Pierre released two captivating songs, “Regrets” and “Menteur,” each accompanied by visually striking music videos. His official debut single, “Un jour, je marierai un ange,” made its debut in November 2021. On January 14, 2022, the EP “Un jour, je” was unveiled, produced by Pierre, his brother and Valentin Marceau. Pierre’s rising star led to appearances on prominent television shows and noteworthy performances. In September, “Un jour, je marierai un ange” achieved gold status in France, a testament to his growing fan base. Shortly after, he received the Belgian Revelation of the Year award at the NRJ Music Awards in November. But there’s more to Pierre than his music. We had the privilege of photographing a cover story with Pierre for DSECTION magazine, where he shared his thoughts on the theme of “FOREVER.” As he continues to captivate audiences with his soulful melodies and unique artistic vision, the world eagerly awaits the next chapter of his musical journey.
“What does the notion of ‘forever’ represent to me? It’s an expression that conjures up the essential, what is not superfluous, what endures. It applies to all aspects of life. As an artist, when I’m in the studio crafting a track, I daydream about creating something timeless, something that won’t wither with time, something that won’t show its age. It’s a utopia because the creation of a work is inevitably influenced by its era, by certain current events, by prevailing norms. I try to break free from these influences as much as possible; I want to last forever.“

“I’m not chasing trends. As Yves Saint Laurent once said, fashions come and go, but style is eternal. This holds true for all artistic disciplines. As a person, I like to apply this concept of “forever” to my personal choices and relationships. I consider myself an optimistic romantic. Naturally, I like to believe that my friendships, my loves, are meant to last forever. Of course, apart from family, all relationships are tied to specific times and places, but I prefer to think that none of that matters, and I am the sole master of my human connections. The concept of “forever” is comforting to me; it evokes tradition, longevity, tranquility, and security. The fleeting is discomforting because it comes and goes incessantly.
